Joining CMU

"May they be brought into complete unity to let the world know that you
sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." (John 17:23)

With this verse as their guiding principle, CMU member organizations all share a commitment to integrating three elements into their ministry:

1. the essentials of the historic Christian faith (unity)
2. the importance of living the gospel (service)
3. proclaiming the truth of the gospel (evangelism)

To realize these ideals, members dedicate themselves to entering into relationships with others who can "consider how we may spur one another to love and good deeds" (Heb. 10:24)

Benefits of membership include:
the opportunity to work together to create and implement joint projects
administrative support through technical expertise, grant writing, seminars related to Christian ministry, and consultation services
group health insurance available for employees
volunteer coordination, and speaking engagements around the community;
written publicity, including listing in CMU's "Directory of Richmond Area Service Agencies," and in a special detailed booklet about CMU and its ministries.
free web space (or connection to CMU's web site) through
www.cmu-richmond.org and rights to publish upcoming events on the site's Community Events Calendar;
connection to an e-mail listserver, which serves as an ongoing means of communication and conversation about everything related to ministry in the Richmond area.

In order to join CMU, you should submit the following:
A written endorsement of CMU's Statement of Faith and Mission, and a request for membership, on the organization's letterhead, signed by its authorized local representative (e.g., executive director, board chair)
A description of how your organization strives to implement the three core values listed above through its ministry and its work with others
A description of your organization's structure of accountability and whether you have IRS nonprofit status
A completed "Member Ministry Inventory" with as much detail as possible (available by following link)
Several copies of blank letterhead and any printed material about your ministry, including your statement of faith

Dues are not currently required, though a contribution toward the operation of the ministry is helpful and appreciated. Members are also encouraged to attend monthly meetings each third Tuesday at noon.
