Jabulani Africa Night
February 2000 Date: Feb.15, 2000 Time: 7:00 pm Place: Powathan Hill Community Center, Wiliamsburg Road Richmond was the capital of the confederacy. Debates about the place of Robert E. Lee still divide the city. Sunday morning is still the most segregated time of the week. African Americans are returning to their African roots, but they often leave their Christian roots at the same time, calling it a "white man's religion." Can there be any question that “race” relations are on God's heart in Richmond at this hour? Several churches and ministries have been quietly working behind the scenes to bridge gaps and build relationships across these historic divides, but they have never come together in united purpose and vision, and the public remains largely unaware that they even exist. This will change on February 15th. Jabulani Africa Night is a celebration to the Lord through African music, songs, and dance. As we observe Black History Month in February, CMU and Youth With A Mission (YWAM) have teamed up to present a broad perspective on what God is doing in Richmond in the area of restoring identity, dignity, and reconciling the black people of Virginia with their roots and with the white people. To this end, several other ministries and churches with a heart for reconciliation will be participating in the evening’s festivities. The evening is not just an opportunity to affirm and support African decendants living in North America, Latin America and the West Indies. All residents of Richmond and vicinity are invited to come participate in meaningful worship in an African style, enjoy African and other ethnic cuisine, and just have fun. By coming together in fellowship and thanksgiving, participants will come away reinvigorated about the breadth and depth of God’s love for all peoples far and near. There is no charge for the evening, but there will be an opportunity for God's people to support what God is doing with a prayer commitment and financial support. Come, let us rejoice in the Lord - for He is our Redeemer! |
